Job summary
As Proofreader, you'll proofread technical and statistical documents across various industry sectors, in order to reconcile revisions, and check spelling, punctuation and formatting. You'll be expected to read entire documents for correct grammar, use of language, consistent presentation of names/acronyms, and to verify footing and cross-footing of financial statements. You'll also consult with customers on correct proofreading standards, client-specific requests and standard Ernst & Young styles. Although you'll receive supervision, you'll have the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
Read original document and/or proofs against copy and manuscript, to detect and mark for correction any typographical, grammatical or mathematical errors, using standard proofreading editing marks and 10-key
Review documents for layout of text and graphics, and check for compositional errors
Make electronic corrections, and rearrange text under established formats and styles
Discuss levels of quality assurance, and correct usage of grammar and sentence structure with the work originators
Track any changes, and use comparison/merge functionality in Microsoft Word, comment tools within Adobe Acrobat, various tool supporting digital projects and other tools, to complete assignments
Support quality assurance and quality controls within the Creative Services Group (CSG), by proofreading documents accurately
May communicate and negotiate project deadlines, project scope and schedule changes as necessary
May create timelines and cost estimates for client approval
Participate as a team player in planning, scheduling and production
Help train new proofreaders
Cross-train staff in additional CSG functions, to provide flexibility of resources
Understand and strictly adhere to the EY quality standards and procedures, including CSG standards and guidelines
Utilize the CSG database, to confirm all time and materials are billed correctly, and that project instructions and customer interactions are fully documented
Develop team momentum by being a good team member and/or leader, promoting and sharing leading practices with Enterprise Support Services/CSG staff
Gain advanced knowledge of the Ernst & Young brand, and raise awareness
Knowledge and skills requirements
Excellent proofreading and documentation skills, on hard copy or digitally
Ability to accurately assess project requirements, identify issues, make decisions and recommend answers
Adept at breaking problems down into manageable parts, applying simple problem-solving techniques
Exceptional attention to fine details
Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
Advanced knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and use of style manuals
Ability to do a comparison read and straight reads
Competent at applying existing standards to new or different documents
Moderate understanding of mathematics and accounting functions
Advanced spelling knowledge
Proficient in computer and Microsoft Word skills, as well as Adobe Acrobat
Adept at working with speed and accuracy
Requirements
Experience
A minimum of 2 years related experience
Education
Associate's degree or equivalent work experience
Bachelor's degree in English and/or related discipline preferred, or equivalent work experienceEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
