Our client a mid-sized law firm located in the Loop seeks a Legal Assistant to handle reception and assist multiple assigned attorneys. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to welcoming guests and clients by greeting them in person or on the telephone; answering or properly directing inquiries; transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting text, data, and graphics, coordinating preparation; conserving attorneys' time by reading, researching, reviewing, verifying, and routing correspondence, reports, and legal documents; drafting letters and documents; collecting and analyzing information; initiating telecommunications; organizing client conferences, and attorney meetings; scheduling couriers, court reporters, expert witnesses, and other special functions; preparing expense reports, check requests, and reimbursement requests; maintaining attorney calendars by planning and scheduling conferences, teleconferences, depositions, and travel; recording and monitoring court appearance dates, pleadings, and filing requirements; monitoring evidence-gathering; anticipating changes in litigation or transaction preparation requirements; representing attorneys' by communicating and obtaining information; following-up on delegated assignments; knowing when to act and when to refer matters to attorney; documenting and inputting attorney time into time and billing software; developing and utilizing filing and retrieval systems; recording meeting discussions; maintaining transcripts; documenting and maintaining evidence; maintaining conference room reservation system and coordinating conference room availability; and willing to assist other attorneys, staff and administration as requested.
Experience with real estate transactions including commercial closings, zoning, land use, and real estate litigation preferred.
Other skills required include excellent verbal and written communication skills, a professional personal presentation, attorney and client service orientation, organized and detail oriented, good initiative, reliable, ability to tolerate stress, a solid business demeanor with minimal socialization, ability to type at least 70 WPM, and knowledge of Microsoft Office and time and billing software. Salary will be commensurate with experienceEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
