Managing Attorney

Zurich is seeking a successful Staff Legal Managing Attorney for our Central Regional office in Chicago, IL.
She/he will be responsible for managing a staff of 13 attorneys in the Chicago Staff Legal office in the areas of General Liability and Workers' Compensation. Other
responsibilities will include:
Providing direction and feedback to staff and monitoring their progress towards set goals and objectives
Exhibiting team selection and development skills
Recruiting and retaining highly skilled and customer service oriented professionals
Implementing case management skills including accurate evaluation of the litigation file including discovery, deposition skills, effective selection and us e of experts, thorough witness/client preparation, motion practice, trial readiness, compliance with files handling guidelines, and file expense
Utilizing case trial and settlement skills including evaluation and facilitation of negotiation techniques, evaluation of courtroom ability and monitoring, and reporting of high exposure cases
Understanding Zurich's customers, organization and strategy
Forecasting future role of legal office and planning accordingly
Client Externally Focused - The job's core deliverables rely on delivering service to external clients and/or customers. Typically involves building relationships and promoting the company.
Basic
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor and 10 or more years of experience in the litigation area
AND
Member of the Bar in good standing in jurisdiction(s) in which practice is located
Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw
Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance defense litigation legal environment
Knowledge of law and procedure

Prior experience and an ability to lead in a team-based environment
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong negotiation skills
Demonstrated case analysis ability and a track record or proven trial/settlement skills
Good collaboration skills
Ability to multi-task and adapt to a changing environment
Effective problem solving and analytical skills
Ability to mentor others on trial advocacy
5 or more years managing a team of people (optional)

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
