You will:
Analyze routine and non-routine environmental samples for the determination of contaminants and chemical parameters, with emphasis on emerging contaminates Develop, modify, and validate methods, and coordinating with headquarters offices (e.g. OLEM) to develop and validate new Agency methods Develop, implement, and adhere to Laboratory Quality Control system requirements. Provide technical expertise, assistance, and advice based on the analysis of environmental samples; with specific expertise in OLEM methods and analytes; and emerging compounds (i.e. PFAS, harmful algae blooms Interpret and evaluate data to determine its significance, and communicate findings orally and in written reports. In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as experience performing chemical analyses and tests; evaluating and resolving problems in laboratory operations, such as quality control or instrumentation issues; modifying analytical methodology for difficult or complex samples; developing and implementing standard operating procedures; providing technical assistance on environmental sample analysis. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:
Skill in using sophisticated laboratory instruments (e.g., gas chromatograph and mass spectrometer) and scientific equipment Knowledge of chemical contaminants and parameters, including specialized knowledge in emerging contaminates (e.g. PFAS) Skill in method development and validation for emerging contaminates of concern Knowledge of chemistry-based quality control procedures and requirements, specializing in method validation Ability to develop, validate, and review new analytical methods Knowledge of federal, state, local, or tribal environmental regulations, policies, and requirements associated with inspection, enforcement, and compliance Skill in oral communication Skill in written communication Ability to provide advice to officials within the Region, representatives of States, Tribal Nations or other Federal organizations on emerging contaminates Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
