Health Technician (Emergency Department)

Specific duties include but are not limited to:
-Monitors EKGs of patients on telemetry at Central Station site for up to 40 monitors. -Identifies arrhythmias and changes in EKG rhythms for expected and acceptable readings and takes appropriate action. -Trouble-shoots machines, checks electrode attachments, contacts medical personnel, and calls codes when necessary. -Obtains EKG rhythm strips every four hours starting at the beginning of each shift and with any rhythm changes. -Measures and records PR, QT, and QRS intervals, interpretation, and rhythm changes and documents in medical record. -Verifies alarm settings every four hours and performs alarm parameter adjustments in collaboration with the registered nurse. -Documents changes in patient' heart rhythm/rate in medical record. -Admits and discharges patients from central monitoring. -Explains procedure to patients. -Provides telemetry monitor, identifies proper lead placement, and attaches electrodes. -Upon discharge, cleans telemetry monitor/leads and places in appropriate storage area. -Maintains telemetry equipment and supplies. -Inspects equipment for malfunction, troubleshoots equipment failures, and notifies bio-med engineering when repairs are needed. -Maintains equipment service logs and missing equipment logs. -Tracks and retrieves missing equipment. -Orders supplies, i.e., electrodes, paper, batteries, as needed. -Initiates CPR code when indicated. -Assists in CPR resuscitation, and other procedures and therapies by running EKG strips and documenting rhythm changes. -Applies principles of infection control. -Performs other related duties as assigned. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. -The Preferred candidate will have EKG Certification. -The employee is responsible for maintaining American Heart Association (AHA) Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience that requires the application of the knowledge, methods and techniques of the position to be filled. Patient care activities and outreach activities require regular and recurring standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching, pushing, lifting, and carrying of items and similar activities using appropriate body mechanics. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require heavy lifting of equipment or patients. Work Environment:
Involves risks typically associated with performance facility work and community outreach. Work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks or discomforts, such as communicable diseases, some verbal and or physical abuse from emotionally disturbed patients and distraught visitors that require special safety precautions. As the duties involve participation in outreach events and representing the Medical Center applicant must be able to work a flexible schedule, periodically including nights and weekends. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
