Paralegal Specialist, CG-950-11

Performs, coordinates and oversees a wide range of duties involving legal and factual research and closely related duties in support of attorneys engaged matters in consumer matters and compliance work. Performs research using Westlaw and/or other computerized data bases, office or attorney files, library materials, corporation records, and other pertinent sources that provide factual information for inclusion in memoranda, briefs and other similar legal documents. Prepares various legal documents, and assists in the production of FDIC documents by searching electronically stored information (ESI) and hard copy documents, assembling ESI and hard copy records, and locating and verifying information. Gathers and compiles information responsive to FOIA requests, subpoenas for production of documents, and requests for legal opinions. Researches case tracking data base to answer questions regarding status of cases, attorney assignments, and other pertinent information regarding cases, opinion matters and special projects. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 9 level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing legal work analyzing and evaluating case files to identify factual issues; assisting in trial preparation, preparing pleadings, and researching and compiling documents utilizing various online legal databases and libraries. OREducation may be substituted for experience in qualifying for this position. If qualifying based on education, applicant must possess:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if relatedORA Combination of education and experience (Appropriate combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be qualifying.) The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
