About the opportunity SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Bat Survey Field Manager-Associate Project Biologist to take a leadership role in our growing bat biology program. Our team performs several types of bat surveys throughout the range of the Indiana bat and northern long-eared bat, with work in many market sectors. We're in need of someone with the experience and leadership capabilities who can share those values while ensuring continued safe, efficient, and consistent execution of bat surveys for our clients. The successful candidate will oversee crew deployment during the field season and assist with providing strategic development of the program. This is your opportunity to engage your experience with bat surveys in order to help shape an effective and sustainable bat program. This is a regular, full time, salaried position available to work in our Chicago/Lombard, IL office, or distributed in any of the following states:
IL, IN, OH, PA, WV. What you will accomplish Oversee field survey crew deployment for bat survey projects throughout the eastern U.S. Work with the existing team to steer strategic growth and ensure sustainability Development and implement processes to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent execution of bat surveys for our clients Conduct surveys and collection of field data for bats, other wildlife, and other natural resources Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools to determine exact locations of project areas, habitat types, and associated landforms; Drive 4WD vehicles in rugged terrain Conduct habitat assessments and site characterization studies Prepare reports and study plans describing survey methodologies and results Assist with Endangered Species Act compliance coordination Experience and qualifications for success Minimum of B.A. or B.S. in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field Must have demonstrated field experience with bat species of the eastern and central U.S. and appropriate survey techniques Hold a Federal Fish and Wildlife Section 10(a)(1)(A) permit for listed bat species to include, at a minimum, Indiana bat, gray bat, and northern long-eared bat Five years' or more experience conducting bat field surveys Demonstrated experience with oversight of multiple field survey crews Preferred
Qualifications:
Hold a 10(a)(1)(A) permit for Ozark big-eared bats and/or Virginia big-eared bats in addition to species listed above Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable skill sets and experience in addition to bat surveys such as:
wetland delineation, avian survey techniques, and botanical survey experience Experience preparing scientific reports and environmental permitting documentation Demonstrated experience with task and/or project management Additional Information:
Documentation of current rabies vaccination is required Ability to conduct fieldwork for long hours in inclement weather conditions Ability to walk up to 10 miles per day, often in rugged terrain. Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
