COORDINATOR-LABORATORIESPHYSICAL SCIENCES & CHEMISTRYWILBUR WRIGHT COLLEGEThe Physical Sciences Department of Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks a Coordinator-Laboratories responsible for the general management and operation of a science lab.
The position enforces safety rules and standard operating procedures in order to remain in compliance with safety guidelines.
The Coordinator-Laboratories oversees budget planning and investigates new equipment/methods for use in lab classes and research.
This position also provides instruction to faculty regarding new instrumentation and procedures and resolves issues with instrumentation and student research projects.
Performs related duties as required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Provides instruction to students in all aspects of a science content area.
Provides technical assistance and mentoring to students involved in research projects associated with grant funded programs (minority participation in science, Center for Science Success, etc.
).
This includes experimental design, feasibility, documenting research activities, and interpretation of results along with suggestions for presentation of findings.
Investigates, recommends, and consults with faculty on researching new lab exercises/protocols to enhance instruction.
This includes all levels of a science content area instruction from general science courses to advanced level science, instrumentation, and medical assistant training.
Purchases supplies, equipment, and repair services using department and grant funding.
Consults with faculty at monthly departmental meetings and makes recommendations for future spending and cost saving measures.
Consults regularly with the Business Office and Grant Writer regarding the feasibility of instituting new programs.
Hires, trains, and supervises staff to perform all tasks related to preparation of materials for use in lab classes.
This includes instruction in stoichiometry, solution prep, sterilization, and decontamination procedures and safe laboratory practices.
Evaluates part-time staff and oversees work hours.
Performs regular inspections on safe storage and handling of hazardous materials and informs/trains faculty and staff of proper handling of laboratory equipment.
Stays current with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) Biosafety guidelines and implements standard operating procedures to remain in compliance.
Maintains stock cultures of numerous pathogenic organisms and mammalian cells.
Performs minor/major repairs on microscopes, audiovisual equipment, and maintains state of the art instrumentation:
High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Thermocyclers, Spectrophotometers, DNA Sequencer, etc.
Adheres to customer service excellence standards.
Performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in a scientific area of study.
Master's Degree preferred.
Five years experience in research/teaching laboratory.
Self-motivated to attain the necessary theoretical knowledge through self-study.
Prior experience in the state of the art science methods and instrumentation and experience working with pathogenic organisms.
Excellent verbal and written skills required with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy.
Computer application skills.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSAbility and willingness to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
This position is represented by Local 1600 Professional Union.
Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within six (6) months of hire.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
