This Non-Financial Risk Consultant (Consultant) role based is based in Chicago is aligned as a support function to the Asset Management business unit of Northern Trust Corporation.
The Consultant will be a key member in a global Non-Financial Risk Management team providing advice and challenge on risk related matters aligned to policies, standards, and frameworks.
This role will allow the Consultant to establish and maintain close working relationships with key stakeholders, to have intimate access to leaders working to develop solutions for real-world issues, and offer excellent exposure for a risk management professional looking to further their career in asset management and financial services.
Major Duties:
Guide first line leaders to ensure alignment with Northern Trust Corporation and Assessment Management policies, standards, and frameworks, including in relation to:
governance practices; risk appetite, self-assessment, monitoring, and reporting; control identification, design and effectiveness assessments; operational resiliency; cybersecurity; third-party risk management; privacy; process change management.
Independently manage and/or coordinate:
-Business as usual incident management, including coordination with business unit Control and Compliance.
-Business unit risk inventory assessments, including the identification of trends or changes to likelihood, impact, and materiality.
-Business unit risk measure data aggregation, analysis, and reporting to support governance committee oversight.
Participate in and/or present to various committees, councils, working groups, and forums.
Perform external continuous monitoring for consideration of impact to business unit, as well as internal continuous monitoring on business change initiatives to ensure risks are identified and aligned with risk appetite.
Liaise with first line leaders and contribute thought leadership to technology/digital development initiatives.
Support Non-Financial Risk team leaders ahead of liaising with regulators, governance specialists and internal/external auditors.
Knowledge/Experience/Skills:

years of Fortune 500 risk management consulting or dedicated second line risk management experience in financial services, with preference to direct experience in asset management.
Membership and exposure to ORX a plus, as well as risk designations and certificates such as:
Professional Risk Manager (PRM); Operational Risk Manager (ORM); International Certificate in Enterprise (or Financial Services) Risk Management; Certificate in Operational Risk Management.
Proficient in insight generation, professional judgement, influence, negotiation, and conflict management.
Proficient understanding of risk frameworks, risk assessment, internal controls, including technology; business process and root cause analysis techniques.
Advanced ability and desire for relationship management and business partnering, including listening, oral, written communication.
Believes in the power of a diverse team and ideas, flexible and open to coaching, understands ethics and integrity.
Behaves like a business owner, maintains attentional to detail, and maximizes productivity.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
