11/22/2023Summary A full-time Student Relations Specialist will serve as a first point of contact and case manager for students who bring forth a concern or experience temporary or long-term barriers to enrollment, persistence, or academic success, and will be committed to fostering an outstanding educational experience for a diverse student population.
From orientation through graduation, this Specialist will help foster inclusiveness and belonging through focused attention on atypical student needs and emergency situations that threaten student success.
The Student Life Specialist provides support to the Dean of Students and serves as a member of the Student Life team who are committed to creating a campus community where all feel welcomed, supported, and safe.
These may include supporting students in situations related to food/housing insecurity, undocumented and DACA student pathways, Title IX, bias, student- or university-related policy violations, or other challenges that impede or threaten a student's pathway to degree completion.
These challenges may be reported to the University on an urgent/emergency basis, or as temporary or longer-term situations, that shape a student's ability to attend classes, complete coursework, or remain enrolled.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Case management.
Assist with management of various student cases that may result from crises or critical life events, co-curricular complaints/grievances, behavioral/crisis intervention, or special housing accommodation, and which may require the attention of the Care Team, student conduct, Title IX, bias-incident response, , or other supportive measures, with a focus on student persistence and overall retention.
This Specialist tracks cases from intake through resolution, and partners with academic advisors, Financial Aid, Student Development staff, and others to assist students in navigating campus resources during times of personal challenge or crisis.
Serves as an escalation contact for student & parent concerns.
Supportive measures.
Recommend and provide supportive measures to students who require assistance, offer referrals for policy questions, service/accommodation needs, or academic support, as needed.
Design and develop appropriate one-time or ongoing intervention plans and referral mechanisms to respond to students experiencing difficulty and/or crisis, in collaboration with other advisors and campus partners, with special focus on retention and student completion/success.
Work closely with the Center for Inclusive Excellence to ensure equity and access to resolution and other processes.
HOUSE Liaison and information/resource bank.
Serve as institutional liaison for the 2022 Higher Education Housing and Opportunities Act, per Illinois statute, with special focus on students who experience housing insecurity.
Design interventions to comply with state requirements and institutional mission for students who experience housing insecurity or homelessness, and other/related challenges.
Maintain a current list of internal/external resources/referrals to include among the supportive measures available to students in need.
Mange identified internal support measures.
Education outreach and student mentoring/advising.
Provide education and support to students, faculty, and staff to help recognize and respond to students in distress or crisis, national/local trends in student health and success, and issues related to student academic or personal concerns.
Create and mentor team of students who serve as peer-mentors or peer-educators on topics related to personal wellness, campus resources, and compliance/community standards.
Collaborate with Counseling Center and other campus partners in outreach activities, as appropriate.
Policy review, assessment, and evaluation.
This Specialist will serve on university committees or work groups to develop policies that support student health, wellness, and retention.
The Specialist may assess services, co-curricular programs, and conduct ongoing program evaluation to improve student learning outcomes, retention, persistence, and completion, as needed.
Assist with annual review of the Student Handbook, Code of Student Conduct, and other student-facing policies and related information.
Program support.
Assist the Dean of Students and Title IX Coordinator with student-conduct, Title IX, or Care Team issues and behavioral-intervention concerns, as assigned.
Serve as general complaint, bias complaint and Title IX investigator.
Manage the intake and review process for student accommodation request in University Housing.
Serve in the Dean of Students on-call rotation for emergency response.
Qualifications Qualifications (required) A master's degree in college student personnel administration, conflict resolution, compliance counseling, social work or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired; Minimum of 3-5 years post-graduate professional experience, preferably in a college/university setting, responding to student conduct or crises, providing direct service to students in distress, with evidence of successful partnerships with students, families, faculty, and staff; Demonstrated experience in program development, education and outreach efforts, marketing, and/or training; Commitment to fostering student learning and support in a diverse and inclusive environment, shaped by the Core Values of the University and the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy and the Conference for Mercy in Higher Education Qualifications (preferred) Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).
Experience with college or university residence life and housing.
Knowledge of community based social services and welfare agencies and their functions.
Experience with behavioral intervention and threat assessment.
Demonstrated experience in interpreting and implementing Title IX and related federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidance in a university environment.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster.
