Coordinator, Public RelationsSummaryThe Public Relations team advances Shedd Aquarium's mission through the promotion, protection, and preservation of the aquarium's reputation and business operations.
The Coordinator will implement and track public relations strategies and tactics that position Shedd Aquarium as the top cultural attraction in Chicago and the country, as well as an established leader in animal care, education, conservation, and science.
This individual will support and execute the development and implementation of external communications activities through writing, earned media, and relationship building.

Duties & Responsibilities Demonstrate commitment to Shedd's vision, mission, and values.
Work closely with the team to create, manage, and implement annual and day-to-day communications strategic efforts to support the aquarium's integrated public relations plans.
Oversee media monitoring and data collection for the PR team.
Track media coverage and relevant news stories daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually to develop PR results and analytic reports through media monitoring software.
Create timely PR reports for campaigns, major announcements, development requests, and more.
Conduct competitor analysis to understand and share insights on the current market landscape.
Work with IT to contribute PR data to the internal dashboard.
Write a variety of PR materials, including press releases, media pitches, fact sheets, key messages, and more.
Secure impactful media placements that reinforce the significance and relevancy of Shedd while advancing the aquarium's mission with specific emphasis on attendance, conservation science and research, sustainability, animal care and animal health, education, and more.
Lead individual programs within public relations strategies from start to finish.
Coordinate media requests, interviews, and onsite visits.
Assist with press conferences.
Develop and update media lists for national and local reporters.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with media contacts to maximize current and future exposure.
Build a strong network internally with Shedd staff and externally with key media contacts and partners.
Work collaboratively to find media-worthy stories to share with the public.
Maintain messaging materials, and resources and update the online press room.
Assist and support the Manager, Senior Director, and Senior Vice President as assigned.
Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Contribute to monthly departmental planning, and manage timelines, and project teams in a highly organized and efficient fashion.
Serve as an active, engaged, and responsible team member who represents departmental and institutional interests at internal and external meetings.

EducationBachelor's degree in communications-related field emphasizing public relations and writing skills.
Experience Minimum:
1 to 4 years of competitive experience in the public relations field emphasizing media relations, and account supervision.
Preferred:
Experience with conservation, museum-field, or animal-related public relations strongly preferred.
PR agency experience and strong writing skills.
Additional Skills Ability to handle confidential information, maintain composure and perform under fire Strong writing skills, firm grasp of AP Style, and strong proofreading and editing skills.
Ability to effectively present information to and collaborate with all levels of employees.
Strong interpersonal skills to develop a cooperative work relationship with staff and the public.
Ability to interact with staff and the public in a consistently honest, friendly and positive manner.
Detail-oriented and project management skills.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Goal and results-oriented.
Demonstrated ability to represent the institution at the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Other Characteristics and Availability Must be available 24/7 via cell phone (except for scheduled vacations) AND able to work flexible hours including early mornings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Language Skills Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.
