Our Chicago, IL site provides toxicology testing and research laboratory services and specialized pre-clinical studies in support of pharmaceutical and biotechnology products.
Position/Job
Summary:
The individual in this position is involved in studies that evaluate the safety and/or toxicity of various materials (e.
g.
, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, etc.
).
This position ensures Frontage Laboratories management of the proper receipt and storage of test and reference materials, and that the identity, potency, quantity, and composition of test and reference materials are in accordance with study specifications.
Work involves conventional activities, as well as complex approaches, such as developing and validating methodologies.
As needed, the Research Chemist supervises support personnel and reports to the Analytical Services Manager.
Characteristic Duties and
Responsibilities:
Supervises the test material laboratory as needed.
Reviews data on test materials supplied by Sponsors (stability, storage requirements, and special hazards).
Receives, prepares, dispenses, and tracks use of test material.
Supervises the analytical chemistry laboratory as needed:
Orders, labels, and stores reagents and solutions.
Properly disposes of outdated or deteriorated materials.
Develops methods for test material analysis.
Analyzes test material formulations.
Ensures that the Test Material and Analytical Chemistry Laboratories are fully compliant with GLP (e.
g.
, FDA, EPA, and OECD) regulations.
Recommends purchases, validates, and documents proper operation, calibration, and maintenance of analytical equipment (e.
g.
, balances, spectrophotometers, chromatographs, etc).
Prepares reports and other documentation describing efforts involved and results obtained in analytical activities.
Prepares SOPs and study specific methodologies.
Leads and coordinates activities of less experienced staff in specific assignments.
Interacts with Study Directors and helps define study priorities and schedules.
Implements and enforces the use of safety procedures.
Completes tasks within time and budget constraints.
Demonstrates the ability to contribute to the success of assignments.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Roles & ResponsibilitiesDuties include HPLC methods transfer/development and validation for the determination of analytes in dose formulation preparations.
Preparation of formulations (e.
g.
, solutions, suspensions, etc.
) to be used in toxicology studies.
Knowledge of performing these duties with strict adherence to Good Laboratory Practice Regulations (FDA, EPA, and OECD) is a plus.
Education, Experience & Skills Required:
Candidates must have a B.
S.
degree in chemistry and 3-5 years of experience in the operation of analytical instrumentation including HPLC, GC, and UV/VIS.
Knowledge of performing these duties with strict adherence to Good Laboratory Practice Regulations (FDA, EPA, and OECD) is a plus.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
