comThe Tax Manager is a seasoned expert responsible for managing tax reporting and compliance, and preparing or reviewing tax returns of certain subsidiaries of CIBC.
The role works with minimal direction on complex projects using deep knowledge in their field of expertise, overseeing external financial statement auditors during the review of tax provisions and tax accounts.
The Tax Manager exercises considerable judgement to support the business unit on the design and implementation of business-specific processes, liaising with the taxation division and external consultants to address technical tax issues.
The role uses significant latitude in determining objectives, collaborating with finance colleagues to ensure the timely delivery of accurate accounting information for reliable tax analysis.
The role often operates in ambiguous situations and provides innovative, original ideas, accountable to broadly defined policy objectives.
ResponsibilitiesOversee various aspects of the consolidated federal tax return compliance process such as preparation of book-to-tax differences, disclosures, forms and more.
Prepare and review the quarterly and year-end domestic tax provision (ASC 740)Provide support for federal and state income tax audits.
Manage the process for tax fixed and intangible asset depreciation records.
Approve monthly journal entries and reconcile activity in general ledger tax accounts.
Review quarterly estimate and extension calculations and coordinate payments.
Assist with the Pillar Two calculations for the US.
Model the federal and state tax impacts of new legislation or other planning projects.
Research technical issues and collaborate on special projects.
Perform thorough review of delegated work, analyze processes, and implement improvementsManage, mentor, and develop staff including establishing goals, delegating assignments, and providing timely feedback.
Required Skills & Experience4 6
years of progressive tax experience with public accounting firm and/or large corporate tax department focusing on Banking and Capital MarketsExperience preparing and reviewing large, consolidated federal tax returnsStrong Knowledge of OneSource OIT and OTP, excel and alteryxWorking knowledge of ASC 740 standardsLeadership and team management skillsAbility to manage projects and drive them to completionEffective communication skills (verbal and written)At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role.
