Business Development and RFP Manager

Working closely with the Global Practice Development (GPD) teams, this position will serve as the primary point of contact and project manager for the firm’s responses to RFPs and RFIs, and will also assist with other proposals as necessary. The position is also responsible for ensuring that the firmwide proposal generator includes the most up-to-date content and that the GPD teams are using the system efficiently and effectively, including overseeing proposal tracking and reporting. In addition, the position will provide high-level support on special projects, as requested.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Serve as main point of contact and project manager for RFPs:

    • Work with partners to assess opportunities and make recommendations about whether to respond to an RFP based on firm and practice strategic goals

    • Coordinate all firmwide sections for RFPs to ensure consistency

    • Work with Pricing, Conflicts, Accounting, HR, IT, LPM, and other administrative departments for requirements related to conflicts, billing processes, technology, staff/diversity statistics, etc.

    • Provide assistance to the GPD teams with practice-specific sections, while still allowing the GPD teams to control the messaging and meet the strategic goals of their practice(s)

    • Review all GPD sections to conform responses to a consistent tone and style, and to ensure that answers are correct and fit with the firm’s overall goals, etc.

    • Assist Pricing Team in developing appropriate fee proposals for specific RFPs

    • Regularly conduct post-pitch reviews

  • Improve the firm’s overall ability to respond effectively to RFPs:

    • Maintain training manual for proposal generation/database system and train employees in its use; create new manual if new proposal generator/database system purchased

    • Lead efforts to create and implement new pitch templates consistent with firm branding standards, particularly if new proposal generation/database system purchased

    • Lead project to identify and implement a new proposal generation/database system and develop training manual if new system purchased

    • Work with GPD team leads and Managing Director, Global Practice Development to improve our ability to input and collect comprehensive matter information from the experience database in a more efficient and customized manner

  • Maintain firmwide RFP content, collateral, written style guide, panel counsel list, and BD page on firm intranet:

    • Maintain/improve content used in answers to all standard and firmwide RFP questions

    • Develop, maintain, and improve all firmwide marketing collateral, including that related to LPM and other client service initiatives

    • Maintain and update firmwide written style guide as needed

    • Maintain panel counsel list and lead partner outreach efforts to clients to determine the timing and specifics of clients’ and targets’ RFP and panel counsel selection processes

    • Maintain BD page content on firm intranet related to marketing collateral, panel counsel lists, RFPs, and RFP support

  • Provide support to Managing Directors on special projects

    • Project manage periodic collateral and bio audit projects (to be executed by GPD teams)

    • Provide support for bi-annual Partners Conference, as necessary

    • Assist with other special projects such as office-specific, client-specific, and project-specific initiatives


Must be specifically listed on resume in order to be considered for this position:

  • 4â€year college degree required

  • 3+ years of RFP experience in a legal or other professional services firm environment, or experience as a practicing attorney or professional writer required


  • Strong project management skills/ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (email, telephone, and in-person) as well as editing skills

  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.); working knowledge of graphics software (Adobe InDesign)

  • Creative, resourceful, and ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • The ability to build credibility and develop internal and external relationships by demonstrating:

    • The ability to work under pressure and prioritize projects with enthusiasm

    • The ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
