POSITION TITLE: Art Instructor
LOCATION/DEPT: Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center
REPORTS TO (TITLE): Performance & Visual Arts Manager
DEPARTMENT MISSION
The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center of Chicago exists to express the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army through a safe, enriching and sacred environment where all individuals have access to opportunities to reach their physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential. OUTCOMES
The Art Instructor is responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with the Academy guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of student's in the field of art. The Art Instructor works directly with the Performance & Visual Arts Manager and Director of Arts & Education in developing course syllabi and class teaching consistent with the mission of The Salvation Army. This is a part-time position requiring evening & weekend hours.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history.
Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing & painting.Understand the versatility of acrylic paints; dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting & monoprinting.Know and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art.Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media technique.Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students' work for the Academy and the community.Responsible for participating in the Visual and Performance Arts School Series on and off Kroc Center site.Develop an age appropriate curriculum designated for all age groups according to the Academy's guidelines and consistent with TSA Kroc Standards.Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Performance & Visual Arts Manager or designee.Responsible for the development of performance rubrics and lesson plans for each activity offered to both children and adults for each class taught.Provide briefing of activities to the Performance & Visual Arts Manager and Director of Arts & Education when called upon.Required to attend all staff meetings of the Arts Academy and RJKCCC.Develop partnerships for arts programming with schools & organizations.Responsible for recruitment of students.Responsible for working with Kroc staff to promote all Kroc Center Programming.Establish and nurture relationships with local, regional and national arts organizations.Is expected to be on time and on task throughout the duration of the class.Is expected to participate in all activities of RJKCCC and the Academy of the Arts.Is expected not to store personal belongings including art work at the center.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Under general supervision of the Performance and Visual Arts Manager with some freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities within established policies and guidelines.
PERFORMANCE MEASURMENTS
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
Feedback through classroom observation, participant & parent survey will also be evaluated.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, or other related field.3-5 years teaching experience as a teacher or arts practitioner working with children, teens & adults.Must be Safe from Harm certified within 30 days of hire.Must be CPR/First Aid certified within 30 days of hire.A valid Illinois Drivers' License/MVR clearance.
COMPETENCIES
Experience in curriculum development and be prepared to provide evidence of such.Must have a working knowledge of art literature.Must be willing to teach classes, workshops and private lessons when necessary.Must attend all trainings and meetings required by the Salvation Army.Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of the RJKCCC and the Salvation Army.Have the ability to work with children, parents and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education including, but not limited to:Ability of relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all agesSensitivity to the individual needs of children while maintaining group identityAbility to use appropriate positive discipline consistentlyDependabilityAbility to handle security and crisis situations in a calm mannerAbility to seek supervision and use it consistentlyAbility to engage and maintain a child's interest in the activities offered.Membership in local, state, national organizations and other professional art organizations is highly preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do light to moderate physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC or for executing educational programs. The work environment for this position includes high levels of noise and flexibility in a constant changing environment. Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
