Purpose of Role The Lead Technical Design Architect (TDA) role sits within the Customer Innovation and Design Team and owns the technical solution for the customer throughout the contract lifecycle.
The role is responsible for setting out the respective technology strategy and decomposing the solution architecture down into its component technical elements.
Responsible for setting out work package definitions and engaging the Contract Design Hub organization to deliver the required detailed designs.
The role is also responsible for all technical input to the contract delivery team during contract delivery, working with the delivery organization to build a technically feasible delivery schedule.
During any Winning New Business Activity, the Lead TDA will be the focal technical design point for the solution architect and technical designers to own the overall technical design and advise on integration with existing contract designs and services.
The Lead TDA will be seen as the network technology and industry direction/evolution expert aligned to a major contract.
Understanding the customer-s specific needs and the industry trends to make our business successful.
Key Responsibilities Responsible for E2E ownership of network design for all Voice services, IPT and contact centre/ TDA input from winning business throughout contract lifecycle.
E2E responsibility for the network technology and designs for GB&FM to the annual circa value of 100M GBP-s Ensuring technical input is aligned with the GB&FM Market Unit priorities.
Strong working relationship with suppliers.
Presenting at industry/customer events and encouraging the supplier to work with BT in positioning them as a leader in any opportunity.
Engagement with internal business development and business management teams is key, in order to drive the deployment of new solutions and the ongoing improvement of existing solutions, driving growth, margin improvement or long-term commitment.
Responsible for product feedback and assisting shaping product evolution to make products fit for purpose for solution design.
Ensures technical change within the contract is assessed and follows appropriate Technical governance and Architectural conformance before detailed design and implementation.
Provides technical input to the delivery schedule, working with the CSD (note that in WNB this is also supplied by the SOLA).
Ensures that work arrives at the Contract Design Hubs in the required format (typically this will mean writing the technical scope element of the work packages), and registering the required work packages on the CDH work package management system including advising of any restrictions to location of design work and Customer Data Handling.
Accountable for the technical design element of contract delivery budget, validating the P&SD costs for design work and feeding into the overall budget controlled by the PDD as well as providing forward forecast of resource requirements Accountable for engagement of the Contract Design hubs including:
decomposing the solution architecture into work packages and engaging the Contract Design Hubs for required design activity and providing initial baseline of project timescales Identifies and resolves integration issues with the technical solution Working in partnership with the Solution Architect for Winning New Business opportunities, owning the overall Technical Design and liaising with the Solution Architect and other Technical specialists to ensure the overall technical Design integrates with the existing contract designs and services.
All mission critical IT services are underpinned by these deliveries.
Failure to deliver on time and to quality would present customer issues and potentially impact customer trading and operations and will impact RFT performance.
This role will play a key part in enabling the increased competitiveness of our market facing unit by having a direct impact on the cost to deliver complex contracts on a global basis.
Identifying competitive threats and forming strategic responses to them through a multi-year Network & Telco strategy Business Impact Maintains a reputation for quality and delivery of their expertise to the business.
Contributes to the definition of strategy and evolution and/ or associated infrastructure investments for Group/ LoB.
Responsible for engineering delivery plans for programmes.
Contributes to the transformation strategy for a network, platform or technology discipline in own area of expertise.
Leads and mentors team(s) to provide technical / professional solutions to new innovative services.
Authority and Decision Making Liaising with key stakeholders, typically at VP level (WL4) and Chief Architect/CTO (WL3) Partnering with Strategic Sales and Client Partners to manage customer relationships (typically at Director/Principal Engineering level).
Maintain ongoing direct relationships with the client CTO-s and provide a prime contact reference point for other BT Design Teams to direct /support their engagement.
Within GS, the job holder will routinely liaise with contract delivery leads (PDDs), with VPs for delivery and service.
Within CI&D the job holder will work closely with assigned Solution Architects for WNB opportunities.
Tactical responsibilities include ownership of technical issues on behalf of the customer and GS Contract Delivery Responsibility for matrix leadership on a project basis of roles across CID and CDH, bringing SOLAs and supporting TDA resource onboard as needed Qualifications Bachelor-s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience Master-s degree in Computer Science or Engineering is preferred Relevant industry certifications are a plus Skills and Experience The ability to apply specialist knowledge and an excellent level of professional knowledge.
Expert knowledge of Avaya or SfB or Cisco IPT and contact centre solutions, SIP and carrier voice, experience in end to end solution and service design.
Must have excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation) Experienced in positions as a key contributor in a complex/ critical environment.
Ability to lead and motivate cross functional teams to ensure delivery to cost, quality and time.
Experienced and fully competent in own area and applies knowledge/ skills to a range of activities.
Ability to interpret client needs, assessing the full requirements, identifying solutions to standard and non-standard tasks/ queries and offering assistance even when not asked.
Experience with analyzing internal/ external business issues and recommended best practice in own discipline and makes changes to own and others work to meet these.
Develops plans for projects in own area over the medium/ long term, including forecasting/ organizing all resource requirements and finance.
Able to explain difficult concepts to a variety of audiences and to ensure that the meaning is understood.
Creates informal networks with key contacts outside own area.
Has a comprehensive understanding of professional communities relevant to the LOB and uses the PC development framework to maximize the potential of themselves, their team and the wider BT team.
Experience with managing costs and time Manages costs for specific projects.
Must be able to effectively manage project delivery times and costs.
