The Opportunity At this critical moment in its history, Feeding America is seeking a dynamic, mission-driven executive to serve as the Deputy Chief Supply Chain Officer (DCSCO).
Partnering closely with the Chief Supply Chain Officer, the DCSCO will define, develop and execute strategies that enable Feeding America and its network of members to source and distribute enough nutritious food for people facing hunger in America.
This leader will direct the operation of the supply chain function including food industry partnerships, agricultural partnerships, logistics and purchasing.
The DCSCO will maximize existing food donor partnerships and develop new channels and categories.
Working with the Chief Supply Chain Officer, the DCSCO will strengthen the network's capability and culture to seize new strategic opportunities and to be good hunger-relief partners to national donors and to each other.
The DCSCO will serve as a member of the Supply Chain Department's Leadership Team.
The current Chief Supply Chain Officer at Feeding America has announced his retirement in 2021.
It is fully expected that the Deputy Chief Supply Chain Officer will transition to lead several key functions within the first three to six months and assume the role within twelve, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and leading a team of 45.
Salary Range:
$230,000 to $250,000
Based on Experience Key responsibilities of the DCSCO include:
Work with the Chief Supply Chain Officer to lead the development of food sourcing strategies that enable continued progress towards closing the meal gap and increasing the availability of nutritious food in the Feeding America network by diversifying food sourcing by channel (i.
e.
agricultural production, retail, manufacturing, purchased, and small format) and category (i.
e.
produce, protein and dairy products).
Work with the Chief Supply Chain Officer to create and pursue a shared supply chain innovation agenda by working with network members in consultation with the National Council to develop, test and scale new capabilities designed to open new channels and product categories of high value to people facing hunger.
Partner with the Chief Supply Chain Officer, the Innovation Team and the Equity, Access and Opportunity team to evolve traditional food distribution models in order to increase access to nutritious food in high-need communities and populations.
Build strategic relationships within food and broader grocery produce industries, positioning the Feeding America network as a food-waste solution and hunger-relief partner.
Work with the Chief Supply Chain Officer to align members to leverage collective strengths and abilities for securing additional products at lowest possible costs across channels.
Partner with the Chief Supply Chain Officer, SVP IT, CFO and Member Business Solutions Council to identify and implement technologies that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the network's supply chain and logistics processes.
Guide the development and execution of a national food procurement program that helps members access at the lowest-possible cost those high-demand products that are rarely donated.
Create a team-based, continuous improvement-oriented work environment that is focused on providing excellent customer service to donors and network members while keeping people facing hunger at the center of Feeding America's decisions.
Lead change both internally and across Feeding America's 200
member food banks via extensive information sharing and advisory services related to food sourcing, logistics and distribution working collaboratively with the strategic network capacity and government relations teams.
Partner with the Chief Development Officer and Development Team to raise funds for Supply Chain initiatives and innovation.
As appropriate, serve as a spokesperson for Feeding America to help raise awareness of Feeding America's mission to various key stakeholder audiences.
Work with the Chief Supply Chain Officer to define, set, track and report on measurable departmental goals aligned with board outcomes and supporting strategies, while maintaining costs within departmental budget.
Ensure activities comply with all federal, state and local laws and that no action will jeopardize the organization's tax-exempt status or compromise the organization's high ethical standards.
Invest in and develop the professional capabilities of Supply Chain Department staff to create a best-in-class organization.
Maintain inter-departmental communications and relationships and participate on projects and special task forces as needed.
